I’ve been hooked on coffee since freshman year of high school, and I genuinely can’t remember the last time I didn’t start my day with at least one cup. I will 100% defend my consumption (because moderate coffee consumption is good for you!), but there’s one downside to my coffee drinking that I can’t defend: it’s not so great for my teeth and causes coffee stains.
Luckily, Smile Brilliant reached out to me recently and sent me one of their at home teeth whitening kits. I’ve tried whitening strips before, but couldn’t ever get past using them for more than a few days for various reasons: they were uncomfortable, they gave me sensitive teeth, or they just didn’t leave lasting results. Luckily, Smile Brilliant solved all of those problems, and I’m obsessed with this whitening kit. (PS: Scroll to the bottom of this post to find out how you can win your own!)
Comfort
The Smile Brilliant system is really interesting, because it allows you to create custom fitted whitening trays from home. You just mix the base paste with the catalyst paste, place it into the trays, and bite down for around 2 minutes. It’s pretty much idiot-proof, although if you manage to mess up one of your trays the first time around there’s an extra set of pastes you can use. You just ship the impressions off and get your custom fitted teeth whitening trays in the mail about 2 weeks later.
The reason I’ve hated whitestrips in the past is that they’re just not comfortable to wear – they slide all over your mouth and usually have some weird texture. These trays feel much more natural, to the point that you can’t really tell I’m wearing them (unless I start talking, in which case you can hear a telltale lisp that’s honestly more funny than anything).
Sensitivity
The Smile Brilliant teeth whitening kit comes with two different colored syringes of gel – the first is the Whitening Gel itself, and the second is the biggest game-changer for me: Desensitizing Gel. If I tried to whiten my teeth multiple days in a row, they’d always start to hurt; with this gel, you just use it after the Whitening Gel and it totally relieves that problem. I usually do about 45 minutes to an hour with the whitening gel (aka an entire episode of Game of Thrones, which I’ve been binge-watching lately), and then 15 minutes with the Desensitizing Gel right before bed. This was the perfect way to whiten my sensitive teeth
Results
For a gal who’s been a heavy coffee drinker for almost 8 years now, any change in my teeth is amazing progress. I’ve only been using Smile Brilliant for 2 weeks now (aka around 8-9 applications, and they look so much better), and I still have a ton of treatments left. I’ll also definitely be stocking up on whitening gel because I’m such a fan of the custom trays as opposed to any other whitening treatment I’ve tried.
