Fall is amazing for a number of reasons. Pumpkin patches, sweater weather, and college football – to name a few. But one reason I don’t like fall? It always wreaks havoc on my skin. I don’t know if this is just me, but my skin always goes a bit haywire when the seasons change. My skin is already a bit picky to begin with, so keeping it balanced becomes even more of an issue during the fall.
Luckily, I think I’ve finally found the recipe for keeping my skin clear. Ultimately, I don’t stick to any one routine – I have a whole array of products that I can choose from depending on how my skin is feeling. I’m going to share my favorites (and when I use them) in this post.
Clarisonic Mia
Out of all the products listed in this post, this is the one I’ve been using most consistently. I used a Clarisonic all the time when I was younger, but had stopped in recent years because the charging port on my old Clarisonic wasn’t very travel-friendly. Luckily, the charger for this baby is way more portable, plus it holds a charge really well.
The Clarisonic is also a perfect balancer – the sonic cleansing really helps to clear my pores and get any oil off of my skin, but it’s not overly harsh on my skin. I actually generally use it twice a day – once in the morning with the Acne Cleansing brush head and once in the evening with the Deep Pore brush head. The Acne Cleansing brush head is a bit softer, which is perfect for the mornings, while the Deep Pore brush head provides a deeper clean that leaves my skin free of any residual makeup or oil by the time I’m finished.
Currently, I’m using the Clarisonic Pore and Blemish cleanser to pair with my Clarisonic, but I’ll likely switch to a face wash with a slightly lower concentration of salicylic acid once it gets a little bit colder and my skin naturally dries out a little bit more.
In the AM…
Origins Original Skin Matte Moisturizer
This is actually a relatively recent purchase, and I am such a fan of it. It’s a really lightweight moisturizer that absorbs quickly, leaving a perfect surface to apply makeup on top of. But the matte quality of this moisturizer means that it’s also a totally feasible option to go without makeup altogether – especially when my skin is as clear as it is right now!
Clinique Pep Start Eye Cream
The packaging of this is appealing enough as is to justify this purchase. The eye cream comes with a built-in round applicator that makes it so easy to spread this stuff around your eye area. I’m always down for something that makes it look like I’m more awake, particularly when college life gets hectic and I don’t get much sleep (this week, for example).
In the PM…
Sunday Riley Ultra-Clarifying Face Oil
This stuff is my holy grail skincare product – I’ve talked about it in a previous post and I still love it as much now. While my skin likes to break out, it usually does so in reaction to getting too dry. As a result, most stereotypical acne treatments can make my skin even worse. But since this is an oil and it hydrates while clearing, I don’t run into that same problem. Plus, I love the smell of tea tree oil.
Kopari Coconut Melt
I use coconut oil for basically everything. Lip balm, makeup remover, moisturizer, you name it. I always use this and my Makeup Eraser to get my makeup off, and depending on how dry my skin feels, I’ll either use the Sunday Riley oil or this immediately after washing my face.
My skincare routine has definitely simplified a little recently – it’s a 2-3 step process instead of 5 or 6 steps. All in all, I think my skin has thanked me for it, and this transition season hasn’t been as nasty to my poor pores.
One final note: I know a Clarisonic brush can generally fall on the more expensive end of skincare, but the investment is so worth it. Also, you can get 15% off of any of the devices here when you use the code HERCAMPUS! Want to spread out the cost? (You read my budgeting post, didn’t you…) Luckily for you, Clarisonic has started offering monthly payment plans, because the college money struggle is real. You basically have no reason not to go buy yourself one now.
