If you’re a college student or a twenty-something like me, there’s a good chance you’re not balling out on home decor items. That stuff is expensive, ya know? But at the same time, you want a living space that looks good and makes you feel good. After all, your environment does tend to shape your mood. If you’ve got a space you love and makes you feel #fancy, you’ll likely find yourself feeling better about life.
Today I’m sharing 4 little ideas, ranging from completely free to around $20, that’ll amp up your space and get you on that “living the high life” vibe.
Make Your Bed
It’s a tiny habit (and is completely free), but I promise it’ll majorly amp up your space. Coming home from a long day and seeing a nicely made-up bed makes you feel like you’re coming home to a hotel room instead of your dorm/apartment. It just makes the space look more put together.
Art Wall
I’ll admit, the art display I have in my apartment is a bit on the expensive side, but it’s also insanely easy to make an art display for just a few bucks. You can find all sorts of prints on Pinterest for free, and washi tape makes for a great frame, especially if you pick colors that match the prints. This easily turns a boring wall into the focal point of a room.
Display What You Love
I’m a huge book nerd. So naturally, I put books everywhere. I’ve got a small shelf above my bed, some on my dresser, and some in my living room. These little collections add a splash of color to the room and make my otherwise basic furniture look a bit more exciting. Interior designers are always putting “coffee table books” on display, so this ends up looking like a real design choice rather than just a display of convenience. This works with so many other things as well: jewelry, office supplies, and candles, to name a few.
Fake Flowers
Fresh flowers are also an option here, but a) they’re more expensive, and b) I can’t keep fresh flowers alive to save my life. Having a little vase of flowers instantly brightens up a room, whether you keep them on a dresser, on a nightstand, or by your bed. I get all of my flowers from Hobby Lobby when they’re 50% off, so I got two different flower bouquets for under $20.
And there you have it! Some super inexpensive ways to upgrade your room decor, without breaking the bank. Happy decorating!
