Life Update, The Next Chapter - Espresso and Ambition

It’s been a while since I’ve done a full-blown life update on here! But honestly, one is majorly overdue, given how many updates I have. First off is the obvious one…

I graduated college!

Life Update, The Next Chapter - Espresso and Ambition

So yeah, this one technically happened over two months ago. But I was also taking summer classes with my study abroad program, and I only just submitted my last paper this past week. So now, I’m done for real. And going on the theme of exciting things that happened this week…

I moved to DC!

Life Update, The Next Chapter - Espresso and Ambition

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you probably remember that I was interning in DC last summer, and I absolutely fell in love with the city. At the start of my senior year, I knew that I wanted to do whatever it took to end up back in this city again. So last Monday, my dad and I packed up almost everything I own into a U-Haul and drove up to DC. I’m living  it up in an Airbnb at the moment, but I’ve got a really great little studio apartment that I’m moving into this week. (Don’t worry, there will definitely be an apartment tour or something once I get settled in.)

I’m starting a new job!

Life Update, The Next Chapter - Espresso and Ambition

As this post is going live, I’m probably in the middle of commuting to my first day of work. I’m working for a great organization doing digital political advertising – alongside the fitness and organization stuff I talk about on this blog, I’m also really passionate about a lot of political issues, so this job description is really right up my alley. I’m excited to officially be a fully-grown full-time working gal! Oh, but not for too long, because…

I’m starting law school applications!

Right now, I’m really thinking I want to matriculate to law school next fall. It’s not a done deal, but I’m definitely applying this cycle. As such, I’m currently in the process of writing my personal statement, as well as collecting letters of recommendation and revamping my resumé.

I’m almost done with my CPT!

This time in between finishing my study abroad program and starting my job was actually really productive for me – I’m about 2/3 of the way through with my NASM personal trainer certification, and I’m scheduling my exam for sometime next month. I haven’t nailed down exactly what I want to do with my certification – I’ve been considering online coaching or actually getting a side job at a gym, but I haven’t made any solid decisions yet. For now, I love being able to apply the knowledge to my own workouts and to the content I produce for all of you.

And finally, some things I’m loving:

  • Movies: Love Simon is the cutest thing ever (I know I’m way late to the game, I always am when it comes to movies.)
  • Books: I binge-read The Rules Do Not Apply by Ariel Levy. And The Way I Used to Be by Amber Smith before that. You can keep up with me on Goodreads as well!
  • Music: I’ve been digging acoustic covers lately, so you better believe I have a Spotify playlist for that. I also regularly make monthly playlists if you wanna keep up with what I’m listening to currently.

Life’s been a whirlwind for me lately, and I’m so incredibly excited for all of it. And through it all, I’m still loving using this platform to talk about my passions, so continue to keep an eye out for new blog posts from me every Monday, and new videos every Wednesday/Thursday.

Oh my god, GIRL! YOU. ARE. KILLING. IT. This life thing – you are crushing it! Congratulations on graduating. That is HUGE in and of itself. It takes time and effort to complete a degree, not to mention passion. Hell, it takes a BUCKET of passion to go back and study something like law, too. I wish you all the luck with your applications. I’m 100% sure you’ll get in somewhere great! As for everything else…Well, GIIIIIRL. This is the first blog post I’ve chosen to read and you’ve blown me away…and motivated me to get my ass into gear. Dang, I need to come back here more often!

Well done, keep it up and kick some ass!

    xo, Victoria

without heavy weights, it’s sometimes a little c without heavy weights, it’s sometimes a little challenging to really feel like i’m working at my full potential on leg days 😶 enter: single-leg movements. since all the weight is in one leg, you’re putting way more emphasis on it than you do during two-leg movements - and you’ll definitely feel that 🔥 you also get some added bonuses in the form of ensuring you’re working each side of your body equally AND a balance challenge!!
.
you can add in weights or bands to up the challenge level, or do it all bodyweight like i am here!
.
1️⃣ 15 single-leg box squats per leg (use other leg as a kickstand for an easier modification!)
.
2️⃣ 15 bulgarian split squats per leg
.
3️⃣ 15 single-leg hip thrusts per leg
.
4️⃣ 15 single-leg deadlifts per leg
.
throw on at the end of a longer leg day workout or do it 3-4 times as a workout all on its own!!

🖤 go easy on yourself 🖤 this is a weird time 🖤 go easy on yourself 🖤 this is a weird time to be alive, and it’s more important now than ever to listen to your body and stop being so hard on yourself. motivation is a fickle thing and working out when you don’t have all the equipment you love is weird. give yourself permission to take a break when you need it. don’t beat yourself up for missing workouts - exercise should be something you do because it makes you happy, not because you feel like you have to punish yourself. if it doesn’t make you happy that day, that’s okay. give yourself a break, come back and try again tomorrow. 💪🏼
circuit-style upper body workout 🖤 honestly not circuit-style upper body workout 🖤 honestly not kidding about how much i love this long resistance band, it’s so versatile! definitely worth getting your hands on one for home workouts 😊 (although almost all of these can be completely with dumbbells or heavy objects if that’s what you’ve got in hand)
.
also please watch to the very end of the fourth video for quality footage of greg 😂
.
1️⃣ 12 long band shoulder presses to standing chest presses
.
2️⃣ 12 upright rows to bicep curls
.
3️⃣ 12 overhead triceps extensions per arm (the one leg stance is some bonus balance work!)
.

.
5️⃣ 12 commandos
.
6️⃣ 12 side-to-side pushups
.
repeat 4x total!!

giveaway 🔥 we’re all handling this weird, cra giveaway 🔥 we’re all handling this weird, crazy time in the world a little differently, and for me, it’s looked like a lot of establishing to and sticking to routines (seriously, sometimes it feels like my skincare routine and workout split are the only thing still giving meaning to days of the week, lol). my morning smoothies have been another important one - there’s a recipe in my story highlights and surprise surprise it uses this protein powder 😛
.
anyways, onto the real reason you’re here! i’m giving away 25 $20 giftcards for @310nutrition with NO STRINGS ATTACHED 🤯 you hear that? you ain’t gotta do a thing to win - the first 25 people to use the code KAYGC20 on their order automatically win. get your hands on some fire plant-based protein powder, courtesy of me and 310 😋 (p.s. if you’re still seeing this caption, there are still giftcards available!!)

upper body circuit ‼️ i’ve been gravitating upper body circuit ‼️ i’ve been gravitating towards circuit-style workouts lately, because they really work up a sweat and home workouts just don’t feel as legit to me unless i’m hardcore sweating 🤷🏼‍♀️ i don’t mind not breaking much of a sweat at the gym, but it feels weird not to when i’m working out at home - anyone else feel this or am i just weird?? 😅
.
do all exercises back to back with no rest in between!
.
1️⃣ 10 push-ups to renegade rows
.
